The LVM-37W1 has a 16:9 aspect ratio, 12ms (millisecond) response time, 176-degree viewing angle, 550 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating–perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight–and 1000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV’s ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It’s capable of displaying 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition video.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image.

This set also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too–a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Other video processing features include 3D noise reduction, color temperature adjustment, and a cross-color suppressor (which softens diagonal lines). Other convenience features include an adjustable backlight for ambient lighting and power savings, picture-in-picture capability, closed caption decoding, and V-Chip parental controls.

It has two removable, bottom-mounted stereo speakers that produce 20 watts of total audio power (40 watts per channel). It offers the following connection options:

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

DVI (Digital Video Interface) provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device. This universal standard for connecting flat-panel monitors is also used for data projectors, plasma displays, and digital TVs.

HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a system for protecting DVD content outputted via DVI/HDMI from being copied. It provides a secure digital link between a video source (PC, DVD. etc) and a display device (TV, projector, etc). Content is encrypted at the source device to prevent unauthorized copies from being made.

Well, it is seems very late for such a review for a tv which came out in 2005.
$1700 for 1080p was a deal back in the late 2005. It had been served as my pc monitor for browsing internet most of time because my games and dvd looked so bad on this unit specially the colors.
It has two dvi input, dvi1 and dvi2. Dvi1 is real 1920×1080p and dvi2 is 1920×540 interlaced. As soon as I got xbox360 and ps3 I hooked up and here is the result.
