Westinghouse LVM-37W1 37″ HD Ready Flat Panel LCD Monitor

With more than 2 million pixels, the state-of-the-art 37-inch Westinghouse LVM-37W1 LCD HDTV monitor offers a 1920 x 1080-pixel progressive scan display that brings you the ultimate in high-definition video. This set is specifically optimized for use with the latest high definition sources. Multiple high-bandwidth digital-interfaces (mounted along the side) mean you can have HD digital cable, HD satellite, and a digital game console all plugged in at once. Additionally PC and notebooks users can enjoy the same fat pipe and the industry best Genesis Display Perfection technology. With a silver bezel and stand as well as removable speakers mounted below the screen, the stylish LVM-37W1 is a great addition to any room. It has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner and it’s capable of displaying high definition TV signals with an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box.

The LVM-37W1 has a 16:9 aspect ratio, 12ms (millisecond) response time, 176-degree viewing angle, 550 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating–perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight–and 1000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV’s ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It’s capable of displaying 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition video.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image.

This set also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too–a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Other video processing features include 3D noise reduction, color temperature adjustment, and a cross-color suppressor (which softens diagonal lines). Other convenience features include an adjustable backlight for ambient lighting and power savings, picture-in-picture capability, closed caption decoding, and V-Chip parental controls.

It has two removable, bottom-mounted stereo speakers that produce 20 watts of total audio power (40 watts per channel). It offers the following connection options:

  • Composite AV (RCA): 1 in
  • S-Video: 1 in
  • Component Video: 2 in
  • DVI: 2 in
  • PC VGA: 1 in

Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

DVI (Digital Video Interface) provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device. This universal standard for connecting flat-panel monitors is also used for data projectors, plasma displays, and digital TVs.

HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a system for protecting DVD content outputted via DVI/HDMI from being copied. It provides a secure digital link between a video source (PC, DVD. etc) and a display device (TV, projector, etc). Content is encrypted at the source device to prevent unauthorized copies from being made.

Customer Review: Bye bye westy
Well, it is seems very late for such a review for a tv which came out in 2005.
$1700 for 1080p was a deal back in the late 2005. It had been served as my pc monitor for browsing internet most of time because my games and dvd looked so bad on this unit specially the colors.
It has two dvi input, dvi1 and dvi2. Dvi1 is real 1920×1080p and dvi2 is 1920×540 interlaced. As soon as I got xbox360 and ps3 I hooked up and here is the result.

dvi1: 360-only 408p and 1080p supported.
ps3-works ok up to 1080i/720p no 1080p support due to hdcp crap.
dvi2: ps3-works ok up to 1080i/720p but 1080p shows a lot of white
flakes all over screens.
360-same as ps3 but worse.

I checked firmware update on westy’s site and they asked my tv’s serial # and I typed and they said invalid and they never responded my e-mails.

Finally, it died due to back light failure. I don’t want to bother with their product any more.

All Westy left me was the bad taste of their brand name.

P.s. I recommand do not bother with the ugly speak because there are two ugly holes behind the ugly speaker.
Customer Review: Non existant Warranty Repair
The LVM-37W1 Monitor failed one year from the date of purchase. (purchased June 6, 2007 – stopped working June 9, 2008)

Merchant says contact Westinghouse directly for service, Westinghouse says to go back to the merchant for service.

Very poor business choices are being made here plus after the fact I have learned from reading that Westinghouse HD Monitors have issues with the power module and Westinghouse has passed the buck to everyone who has reported the same issue as I have. Buy Now
